Pregnancy

I visited Rachel from 16 weeks during my second pregnancy. Rachel is a very calming person and a fantastic reflexologist, I could feel the energy working through my body during the sessions and my baby used to respond to them too, she now loves her feet being massaged. I think the regular sessions contributed to my trouble free pregnancy- in fact the only ailment I had was once suffering from lack of sleep and I actually started to fall asleep in the office the afternoon after a morning session with Rachel where she focused on that! I can't recommend Rachel highly enough.

If you are pregnant there may be issues which cause discomfort. Reflexology has a good reputation for helping Pregnant mothers.

The first Trimester of pregnancy is the first 3 months and is of vital importance to you and your growing baby. Unfortunately due to the changes in your body you may feel sick, have some lower back pain or generally feel tired.

The second trimester is mid-pregnancy usually a time when you feel quite energized but you may be unlucky and suffer from back pain or pelvic pain. Many of my clients have experienced SPD (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction) or PGP (Pelvic Girdle Pain) and have found their treatments to be beneficial.

The third trimester can seem like the longest especially if you are uncomfortable in any way, the extra weight you are carrying can cause problems in your ankles and feet and sometimes it is hard to get into a comfortable position for a really good nights sleep.

Reflexology may be able to help you relieve any symptoms you have and help you get through the highs and lows of pregnancy.

It is a safe treatment for you and your baby. A qualified Maternity Reflexologist knows exactly which points (reflexes) on the feet she can work on to harmonize your body and to help prepare you for one of the greatest moments in your life, the birth of your baby.

Every woman has a different experience of pregnancy and often no two pregnancies are alike. Relaxation is the key and taking time out for yourself and the new life growing within, is the best investment you can make. An hour of peaceful therapy will leave you feeling refreshed and energised to cope with the pressures of daily life and pregnancy.

Reflexology can be used for general well-being or to address other health issues such as sleeping problems as they arise. Of course i am there to support you through any worries or concerns you may have.

As your due date approaches, you may find it more useful to have more regular treatments. I suggest that normally monthly treatments are sufficient until week 32 then fortnightly until week 36 and then weekly until you birth your baby.

Research carried out in 1993/1994 by Consultant Obstetrician Dr Gowri Motha, showed that first time pregnant mums who received at least nine maternity reflexology treatments during their pregnancy, had far shorter birthing times than those who did not have reflexology. On average, their labours lasted 5-6 hours and they required significantly less pain relief too.

Back to Back or Breach Baby?

A reflexologist who is properly trained in Maternity Reflexology may be able to encourage your baby to turn into an optimal foetal position - you should always seek permission from your midwife first though.

Thank you for the lovely treatment I had. I definitely remember
saying I felt a large movement. I noticed in the days after the baby's
movements seemed different - less limbs and more shuffle. I had a scan last
week and baby was not back to back! Thanks again.

More from Helen post delivery:

Just to say baby arrived after a 2 1/2 hr labour. A beautiful natural experience, no pain relief needed. Absolutely not back to back and in fact the midwife said she was delivered in a perfect position. Thanks for my session, I won't ever forget it.

Induction Looming?

Should you go past your 'due date' and induction is looming, an experienced Maternity Reflexologist may be able to 'encourage' the onset of labour (of course there are no guarantees!) - call me to discuss a ‘priming treatment’. Remember that reflexology in the final stages of pregnancy can be a wonderful relaxing experience that may improve your feeling of well-being.

I just wanted to say a big ‘thank-you’. After having my second priming treatment in the evening, my waters broke on the way home! My labour went smoothly and would have been very fast and without pain relief if it weren’t for a few complications at the end. My wonderful daughter was born the following afternoon. I would definitely recommend reflexology from yourself.
